Harold Thomas 1943 - 2021
Harold Thomas, known as “Poppie” to his grandkids and great-grandkids, 78, had a full life. At 18 years old on December 2, 1961, he married the love of his life, Carolyn Thomas at Friendship Baptist Church. Two years later in 1963 they decided to extend their family and had their first child Guy Thomas. Four years later in 1967 they extended their tree a little more and had their second child Julie Abke. Harold and his family’s roots run deep in Waller, TX. They have lived in Waller for the past 64 years putting 3 generations of Thomas’ through Waller ISD.
Anyone who knows Harold, Poppie, would describe him as a family man. He was always supporting his family, whether it be at a rodeo, volleyball game, track meet or animal show. Rain, shine, sleet, snow he was going to be there to support his babies. He was a jokester. He loved to laugh and make others laugh in return. Harold was a lover of the outdoors and a man of the community. A few of his accomplishments include being a mason for the last 50 years, being part of the Waller County Fair Grounds, Field Store Cemetery Association, being a Justice of the Peace, and helping found the Waller County Little Britches (which is still active to this day).
Harold, Poppie, is leaving behind many people who loved him, his kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. But also, his honorary pallbearers who were Harold’s oldest friends and could tell us many stories of him in his heyday.
There is no amount of writing that could ever exemplify or describe who Harold Thomas was. This is not a goodbye but simply a see you later. Gone, but never forgotten, until we meet again.
Harold passed away on December 19, 2021.
